Don’t Sleep On It | ICON

GOAL

To show that God wants us to not sleep though His plan for us.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well!

  • How was everyone’s week?

  • Has anyone ever had a crazy dream? What was it?

  • Anyone ever fallen asleep in class?

SCRIPTURE

READ 1 THESSALONIANS 5:4-12

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • The writer talks about being on guard and not asleep like others. What do you think he means? (That we are always ready “living in the light”, and never ignoring what God has for us)

Helmets protect you, and the writer says to use the “confidence on your salvation” as your helmet. What do you think this means? (When you are confident and secure in who you are and that God saved you, you won’t be Sahel  or fall asleep.)

  • he ends the passage saying to “build each other up”. Why do you think having others to remind you of this is important?

When we grow in our relationship with God, when we are “Rooted and Built Up”, God sends us opportunities to use what we have been given (our time, our season, our gifts, talents, etc.) to reach others  and to glorify God.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

Wednesday we talked about not “sleeping” though God’s plan for us. Often we can start to coast and pass by things that God is calling us to, but God has bigger things for us.

  • Do you ever find it hard to really know God’s plan for you life or know if He’s asking you to do something?

  • often when we are not sure what God is up to, we coast or we sleep. What ways can we always be ready and awake, even when We’re not sure what God is up to? (Staying in God’s word, talking to spiritual leaders when we’re not understanding, staying faithful to pray and making church a priority)

  • When we DO know what God is calling us to do and it’s hard, uncomfortable, or we don’t agree, we often sleep through it. Why do you think this is the way we go? What can we do to stop it?

ACT ON IT

  • This week, how can you focus more on pursuing God’s Plan, and not settling with sleeping through your days?

  • Others in your CREW need YOUR encouragement to kee going. What can we do as a CREW to build each other up and motivate each other to keep going?

  • If you ever have questions about what God is calling you to, or not sure what to do next, always reach out to your leader.
