  • If you had a free weekend, and money wasn’t an option, what would you spend the weekend doing?
  • What’s something that you do every weekend right now?
  • Does your family or friends have any traditions? Yearly, monthly, weekly?

SCRIPTURE

READ GALATIANS 6:9

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • He says here to not grow tired of doing good. Why would anyone grow tired of doing good?
  • What do you think he means by “in due season you will reap if we don’t give up”?

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • Consistency is Key. What do you do to be consistent in following God / making your relationship with God a priority?
  • On Wednesday we talked about 3 reasons why many people give up on consistency. Feeling as if God has stopped giving things, feeling that God stopped talking, and feeling like we are not seeing God move. Have you ever experienced any of those? Have you ever felt like giving up on consistency?
  • Galatians 6:9 says we will reap a good harvest if we don’t give up. God has tied a direct promise to consistency. Have you ever experienced a time where you saw God come through after you decided not to give up?

ACT ON IT

  • What are the areas you need to be more consistent in? Bible, prayer, standards, moral lines. Identify them and write them down somewhere.
  • How can you help not only yourself be more consistent, but also the others in your Crew? What could you all do together to be more consistent?

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.

Rumors | Week 6 | Waiting

GOAL

To learn what we do when it seems like God is saying “wait”.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well

  • Do you feel like you are an impatient person? Why or why not?

  • what is something that you had to wait a long time for? Something you had to save money for? How did it feel when you finally got it?

  • Have you ever settled for less because you didn’t want to wait?

SCRIPTURE

READ PROVERBS 3:5-6

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • These verses talk about how we should trust God, and not just rely on what we understand. What do you think is the hardest part about trusting God day to day?

    • (Here we are looking for answers like “it’s hard to trust someone that it seems isn’t physically here”. Or “it’s hard to know what God wants me to do”.

  • Trusting God everyday is a decision we have to make. You will not always wake up feeling like trusting. What are some things that anyone can do to remind themselves that trusting God is always better?

    • (consistent bible reading, prayer, community etc.)

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • One of the hardest times to trust God is when we have asked, prayed, petitioned with God for something and it hasn’t happened yet. Maybe it was for us, or for someone else. Have you ever had a time like this? What was it like? When was it? What were you asking God for?

  • When It seems like God is saying “wait” it can be tough to trust. When it’s tough to trust, we start to take things into our own hands. What do you think are the dangers with deciding to take what you originally trusted with God into your own hands?

.READ PSALMS 27:14

  • this verse says it’s courageous to wait and trust God’s Timing.  why do you think that is? (Waiting on God takes more faith and more courage than just trusting yourself. It’s honorable to wait on God)

ACT ON IT

  • Knowing yourself, what can you do daily to trust God more?

  • What are the areas in your life that you consistently take into your own hands, that you need to put back in God’s hands and wait on his timing?

  • Commit to praying specifically this week for everyone in your CREW to trust God’s timing.

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.

Rumors | Week 5 | Reputation

GOAL

To show that while our reputation with other matters, God’s view of us has never changed.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well

  • Have you ever felt like you had a bad reputation?

  • who is a celebrity, athlete that has a bad reputation?

  • have you ever believed something about someone that turned out to not be true? Believed a reputation about someone that was false?

SCRIPTURE

READ MATTHEW 7:17

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • What do you think Jesus is talking about when he talks about fruit?

    • (Jesus is using the tree and fruit for an analogy of people and their actions. In a way he is saying “You know what kind of tree it is because of the fruit it produces”. He’s using this to show that you can tell if a person follows jesus, doesn’t follow jesus, is selfish, kind, or any other things by their actions.)

  • Do you think Jesus’ “Fruit” (his actions and the results of those actions) matched who he said he was? Why or why not?

    • (This can open great conversation around who jesus was.)

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • People in Jesus’ time saw his “fruit” but still believed false things about him. They spread a false reputation. why do you think that was? Have you ever had a “false” reputation spread about you?

  • While we do need to make every effort to have a great reputation with others, ultimately we cannot control what others think and feel about us. Have you ever found yourself worrying to much about how others feel about you? Why or why not? Has it ever caused you to act differently? Has it ever caused you to change your fruit? (talking here about how our lives can sometimes shift to where we are being completely different people because we want to control how others think and feel about us)

How do you think God views you (This will cause a major shift in the conversation. If you need to stay on the above topic, do so!)

  • Read JOHN 3:16-1t7

  • Now re read the verse in your head but inser your name where it says “world” in verse 16.

  • That is how God feels about you. No conditions. Not buts. No howevers. No matter what you’ve done, where you’ve gone, or what you’ve said, you were worth dying for. Thats your reputation.

ACT ON IT

  • Do you have a relationship with God? Have you accepted that love? It’s as simple as ABC

    • Admit: That you need Jesus

    • Believe: That came and died for you but didn’t stay dead. He rose. So that you could have life

    • Commit: To living your life for Him. And following Him to the best of your ability.

  • If you want to do that or have more questions please talk to your leader

  • Do you find yourself changing your actions (fruit) and lowering your standards in an attempt to change peoples thoughts about you? if so, how can you change that? Do you need to have a better friend group? Read God’s word more? Develop a better prayer life?

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.

Rumors | Week 4 | Depression & Anxiety

GOAL

To show that if we struggle with depression / anxiety or know someone who has that we are not alone and that there is hope and help available.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well

  • How has your week been?

  • What did you think about the Q&A session on Wednesday?

  • Where do you feel like this topic is talked about the most?

  • Do you think the church needs to talk about it more?

SCRIPTURE

READ PSALMS 119:143-144

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • When the psalmist says “I find joy in your commands, what do you think he means?

    • (The psalmist here is saying that when life is hitting hard, when the pressure is on, that he finds joy & relief in the way God asks us to live. That when we are running after Him consistently, we can remember that al things work together for the good of those who love God -Romans 8:28. We can know that eventually, there will be an end to it.)

  • The psalmist asks God to remind him and to help him understand God’s commands and laws so that he may live a full life. Do you think that is true? Do you think that living the life God asks us to live leads to a fuller life? (John 10:10)

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • Have you ever felt like the writer of this verse? Like life and pressure and stress was bearing down on you? What was that like? If you are comfortable share the situation surrounding it.

  • Its easy when pressure starts to bear down to believe that it will never end. But often we don’t ask for help. Why do you think that is? If you had a time where you didn’t want to ask for help, why was that?

  • What are the things in life that cause you the most stress or anxiety? School, sports, family?

  • Read 1 PETER 5:7

ACT ON IT

  • God wants to know about your worries. In fact He already knows but wants his people to bring them to Him. When we do we can know that he cares, and will help us in our need. Do you feel that you can bring things like this to God?

  • Often anxiety and depression can be caused by us living double lives, falling into sin, or putting un-needed stress on ourselves. Other times it can be cause by something that happened to us that we never chose. Sometimes its biological. No matter what the reason, there is hope, and there is help. If you need help with anything related to Anxiety, Stress or depression, please let a leader know. Don’t feel shame. This is a family and you are not alone.

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.

Rumors | Week 3 | Worship

GOAL

To show that we are meant to live a lifestyle of worship.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well

  • What was one of your favorite songs as a kid?

  • whats your favorite song right now?

  • does anyone here play any instruments?

  • whats a song you are embarrassed to say you know every word to?

SCRIPTURE

READ PSALMS 5:7

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • The psalmist here says that he worships because of something. What is that something?

  • He also says that when he worships it is In “deepest awe”. What do you think that means?

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • In your life Is worship a response or something you have to do? Be open and honest. If it’s just something you feel like you have to do, why do you feel that way? If it’s a response what is it in response to?

  • Worship is meant to be directed to God, do you feel like your focus in worship is on God, or on how you feel about the songs?

  • Have you ever been in a worship service, or had an experience in worship that sticks out to you? If so what was different?

ACT ON IT

  • Worshipping God with all that you are, fully engaged In worship, matters. How can you realign your focus during worship?

  • The Bible also talks about how we worship God with our lives through the way we act, what we say, and what we prioritize. How can you better worship God through the way your life is lived out?

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.

Rumors | Week 1 | The Church

GOAL

To see the potential that the church has, and how being a part of the body of Christ is important. Consistency not perfection is the goal.

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well!

  • Whats the craziest rumor you have ever heard?

  • Have you ever believed a rumor only to find out it was false?

  • What do you think the church is for? Why does it exist?

SCRIPTURE

READ MATTHEW 16:18

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • Jesus here tells Peter that not only would he help start the church but that this church would not be overcome. Looking forward not only to the global church of all believers but also to the local gatherings Jesus said that His people gathered under His name would change the world. Do you feel that is what the church looks like today? A thing that cannot be shaken?

  • Jesus talked as if the church had huge potential. That God wanted to use it to accomplish big things. What do you think those things are? What does God want to do through the church?

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • The bible talks about all believers being the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27). That together we accomplish things we could never do apart when we all bring our gifts and talents together. What do you believe your gifts and talents are? (leader: this is a chance for you to also tell these students what YOU see in them. What you see their gifts and talents are.)

  • How can you use those talents in the church, to reach others, or for God in general?

  • Often when people make mistakes the Church is the last place they want to be. in your opinion, why do you think that is?

The church was never meat to be for perfect people. The goal is not perfection, but a consistent pursuit of Jesus. Being planted in God’s house and being consistent helps us grow our faith.

ACT ON IT

  • When one part of the body is missing it hurts the whole body (imagine missing a limb. ouch.) the same is true for the body of Christ. How can you make being a part of the church more of a priority? If it is already a priority for you, how can you help reach out to others?

  • The potential of the church is unlimited. You have a huge part in that potential. Making Church and your spiritual growth a priority isn’t just about you, it’s also about all the people that need someone with your gifts, talents, and faith to reach them.

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.

One Night | September 2018

GOAL

To learn how we can be self aware of where we are. The be honest with ourselves about our faith. Do we know Jesus? Am I putting on a show? Am I pretending to be okay?

CONVERSATION STARTERS

These are meant to spark conversation within your group. Use one, use none, or use them all. Most importantly feel out where your group is at and get them talking. You can find some ice breaker games / discussions in the leader hub as well!

  • When you were a kid, was there something or someone you always wanted to be?

  • What was your favorite halloween costume you had as a kid? What was the one you wish you had or always wanted?

SCRIPTURE

READ 1 Peter 1:3-9

Encourage your Crew to open their Bibles (or app) and ask one of them to read the passage.

  • What do you think Peter mean when he says “There is wonderful joy ahead, even thought you must endure many trials? (God never promises that when we know Him that everything will be smooth sailing, but rather that He will always be with us every when the waters get rough.)

  • What do you think he means when he says “These trials will show that your faith is genuine"? (When you are going through hard times is when you need faith the most. True faith stands strong in trials.)

MAKE IT PERSONAL

  • Much like a halloween costume we can often pretend we are something we are not. We can pretend that we are strong in an area that we are weak in. We usually do this because we don't want others to know. Sometimes putting on a show seems like a better option. But when hard times and trials come, when our faith is tested, we need to know where we are strong and where we are weak so that we can endure trials not fall under them.

  • Why do you think people pretend to be strong in an area they are actually weak in?

  • If you were honest (don't share what it is, just raise your hand) have you ever pretended to be strong in an area you are actually weak in? Does anyone want to share? (Maybe encourage them to start small. Things that dont have to do with faith. “i prenteded to be really good at math, or basketball so that people would view me a certain way” then move on towards faith.)

ACT ON IT

  • Have everyone take a piece of paper and a pen. Write down the area in your life that you act strong in, but if you were honest you feel pretty weak.(maybe its your actual faith in God, temptation, reading God’s word, confidence. Being aware of what we struggle with and being honest about it is the only way to move forward.)

  • How can you grow in that area this week? What can you do to move forward? Write down that goal. (read God’s word more, pray consistantly, come to YOUTH) (Encourage students that if they do not know how to move forward in that area, to reach out to you. You can also ask students to share how they are going to move forward if they are comfortable. Other students may be dealing with the same thing and be able to help and offer insight.)

  • God always wants us moving closer and closer to Jesus. This means you can be stronger. Being honest with where you are is the first step. It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to not be where you need to be. But it’s not okay to stay that way and you don’t have to. Whether your weakness is comfortable, or whether it brings you shame and hurt, you can move forward. God knows, it’s not a surprise to Him. Bring it to him, and see how you can move forward.

PRAYER REQUEST

Ask your Crew if there is anything that we can pray for, write them down, and then end the night in prayer. Encourage another student to kick off the prayer and then you finish up.
